Stargate UAE: The Middle East’s Boldest AI Move Yet
Just a couple of days ago, social media was abuzz with acclaim that ChatGPT Plus will be free for all UAE residents. This stems from multiple reports suggesting that the UAE has become the first country to offer premium features of the app at no cost to “every resident and citizen.” Based on a line from OpenAI’s press release announcing Stargate UAE, says: “Under the partnership, the UAE will become the first country in the world to enable ChatGPT nationwide—giving people across the country the ability to access OpenAI’s technology.”
To set this straight, once and for all: ChatGPT Plus for all residents has not been confirmed by OpenAI yet, and ChatGPT Plus remains a paid service in the UAE until further confirmation.
Backed by G42, OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and SoftBank Group, the project will be powered by a 5-gigawatt data center and may reach an estimated US$20 billion in investments. This AI ecosystem is expected to be operational by 2026 and will support critical sectors like:
- Government and defense
- Healthcare and medicine
- Transportation infrastructure
- Education and workforce development
- Clean and modern energy

The Musk-Altman Feud: Tech Politics in the AI World
No major AI development comes without a touch of Silicon Valley drama. Reports suggest Elon Musk attempted to derail the Stargate UAE deal unless his AI company xAI was included. According to The Independent, Musk warned that “Trump wouldn’t sign off on the deal without his involvement.”
This comes with Musk not being happy with a deal that benefited Sam Altman, his tech rival. If you don’t know the back story: Altman and Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but Musk left the company in 2018 after a power struggle and the two have had a major falling out.
Google’s AI Surge: Gemini, Gmail, Meet & Search Evolve
Moving forward from Stargate UAE, other AI developments are leaving us with the “Oh Wow” effect and “It’s Crazy”.
Have a minute? Keep reading on to discover how Google is killing it:
- Videos with sound: Outputs turn into movies? You have it!
- Google Meet Live Translation? Yes, now you can understand people who don’t speak English. Talk in your language and others will understand you in real with the automated translation.
- Gmail Personalization. That too! Now Gmail understands how you talk and it will respond to your email on your behalf. No need to email anymore?
- Google Search; is a much-awaited advancement with the AI mode that will give you a direct & summarized answer just like ChatGPT.
One more exciting advancement is Gemini Live. With it, you can now point your camera at anything and Gemini will help you specify the object, and tell you how to put together a chair, anything now is possible.
- Try It On: Now you can try products on your photos, you don’t need to get a dress, try it on, and return it. Imagine your outfit now before buying.

AI in Film: Art, Ethics & Artificial Dreams
Artificial intelligence is no longer limited to what we’re used to. Imagine with us watching a movie and not knowing if it’s realistic or not. Well, with the new advancements, now artificial intelligence technologies can do the scriptwriting and pre-production to post-production and even the creation of AI-generated films. This includes using AI to analyze screenplays, suggest locations, generate storyboards, and even create new content.
Several new AI-generated movies have emerged recently, utilizing AI tools for various aspects of filmmaking. These range from fully AI-generated films to those where AI is used for specific elements like editing, visual effects, or even scripting. Some notable examples include: “The Frost” by MIT Technology Review, which is entirely AI-generated, and Natasha Lyonne’s “Uncanny Valley” a project using AI-generated content alongside traditional filmmaking techniques.

Cinematographers, actors, and the public had different opinions on AI in that matter. “I am a big believer in not letting robots dream for us. Robots cannot reflect the human condition for us. That is a dead end.” Nicolas Cage says in an interview. Director Tim Burton finds it unsettling and strips away the human essence of his art: “It takes something from your soul or psyche; that is very disturbing, especially if it has to do with you. It’s like a robot taking your humanity, your soul.”
Job Displacement: The Dark Side of the AI Revolution
AI is not just reshaping tech; it’s reshaping society. According to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, AI may eliminate up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within 5 years, potentially causing a 20% unemployment rate in some economies.
Additionally, the World Economic Forum warns that 40% of employers plan to reduce headcount where AI can automate tasks.
